Dear Prospective Honors Chemistry Student,

Honors chemistry will be an in depth exploration of chemistry that includes the study of the classification of matter, atomic theory, chemical formulas, chemical reactions, and solutions. Reasoning and organizational skills will be stressed. Math skills will be required on a moderate to high level. If this sounds like something you are interested in attempting, please continue reading.

In order to prepare yourself for the rigor of honors chemistry, you must complete the following work beforeschool starts in the fall. By completing this work on your own, you will brush up on and solidify previously learned content that will be essential for the course as well as preview new skills and concepts that will be introduced next year.

***There purposefully will be little to no explanation and/or instruction of these skills in this summer work packet as to gauge your current abilities as well as your drive to search for new information and
understanding independently.

The ten summer work skills you will complete in order to prepare for honors chemistry are listed below:
1. Scientific Notation
2. Significant Figures
3. Unit Conversions
4. Using Numbers And Conversions In Context
5. Temperature Conversions
6. Rearranging Algebraic Formulas
7. Creating And Analyzing Graphs
8. Balancing Chemical Equations
9. Independent Research
10. Analysis And Evaluation Of Nonfictional Sources

You will be expected to use the class remind app as well as the class website.

***Your first assignment of the summer is to familiarize yourself with the class website and find and follow the instructions to sign up for the class remind app. The class website is www.hornethonorschem.blogspot.com.

Please complete this entire packet and return it no later than the end of the first week back to school.
